Blackberry as modem on Vista

This setup should work with any Blackberry model as long as you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed on your PC and it is version 4.5 or later!

First ensure that the Blackberry Desktop Manager is running, and you can see the Blackberry is showing "Device:Connected" with a PIN number.

Minimize the Blackberry Desktop Manger but do not close it. IT MUST BE RUNNING IN ORDER TO CONNECT!

  1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Phone & Modems -> Modems (Tab)

    Note: If you cannot get to the modems tab but it is stuck on ‘location information’ enter the area code for the Blackberry then click OK. Do not fill out any other boxes in location information.

  2. Select Standard Modem and select Properties, then go to Advanced (Tab).
  3. Enter the init string: at+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”wap.voicestream.com”
  4. *MAKE SURE TO ENTER THIS IN CORRECTLY OR YOU WILL GET ERROR 692 or ERROR 734!*
  5. Click OK, then OK again. You should be in the Control Panel now. Select Network Connections.


  6. Select Create a New Connection



  7. when the New Connection Wizard opens click Next


  8. Choose Connect to the Internet and click Next


  9. Select Setup my connection manually then click Next


  10. Connect using a Dial Up Modem then click Next


  11. Make sure ONLY the Standard Modem is selected! (it will have a check and any other modems will not) Then click Next.

  12. Name the connection T-mobile and click Next


  13. Phone number will be *99#



  14. Username and Password: Blank. Uncheck all the boxes and click Next.


  15. DO click “Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop” and click Finish


  16. Verify no username, then click Dial
